Case Study - Kildare

How Motorola Canopy Solution has cut down monthly costs of subscribing to communication line for small enterprises and residents of Kildar region, Ireland.

Problem: Monthly costs for small enterprises in Kildar region, Ireland, for 56 kbps Internet rates can be even higher than 200 €. More advanced network solutions are either unavailable or even more expensive.

Solution: Quantum Broadband Solution, d.o.o., has contacted the Kildar Region Council and local Chamber of Economy of Nes and Newbridge, with its proposal to develop wireless broadband in that region (www.qbsl.com, www.motorola.com/canopy, www.connectwithcanopy.com)

Result: QBS has successfully implemented Motorola Canopy wireless broadband solution. Now, the enterprises and residents are able to receive up to 2 Mbps for both uplink and downlink Internet links as part of T1 service costs.

Background: Martin Curtis, the founder of Quantum Broadband Solutions, d.o.o., was looking for broadband solution that would be easily applicable, providing high data transmission rate and acceptable.

"There is no town within the Kildar region with this type of broadband", he said.
"Even if there is any, it is sporadic and expensive, with unfavourable basic prices for small and medium sized enterprises."

Curtis was categorical in his belief that Motorola Canopy Solution provides the best business operation possibilities. He appreciates the support of the officers of Kildar Economy Development Council, as well as the support of Chambers of Economy of both Nes and Newbridge, two of the larger cities from this region. He initiated his proposal for wireless high-speed Internet service beginning April 2005, and reactions were positive.

The user Joe Fraser from Tougher Oil Company said:
"It is quite good. It's reliable. It's much cheaper than the line subscription."

He also said that Tougher was paying € 8.000 a year comparing to € 2.000 a year that the Company is paying now for the wireless broadband, which means a considerable decrease of costs and ten times higher on-line speed. Curtis said that Kildar region, south-west of Dublin, was a great opportunity, with its population of 250 000 and a few thousand of enterprises that could benefit from high speed Internet.

"We are happy about the efficient implementation of Canopy. It is a friendly system to use with its proved reliable and secure peripherals and possibilities. We are also very satisfied that our business operations have been attracting foreign and domestic investors from the very start.", Curtis says.
