FuelOmat Gold - Vehicle identification system

Through its FuelOmat® solution, Orpak is a world leader in Vehicle Identification Systems (VIS) for vehicle fueling. Over the last decade Orpak has sold more than 3 million vehicle units and installed more than 14,000 stations in over 30 countries worldwide.

FuelOmat is based on automated identification of the vehicle by the station systems, which enables fast refueling with no need for cash, card or coupon payment. VIS brings numerous advantages and significant savings in fuel expenses for both fleet vehicles and consumers.

Now more then ever, FuelOmat® is the ideal fueling method, providing substantial value to oil companies and fleets:

Oil companies and station owners – increase sales and throughput using
an innovative loyalty tool with online fleet services,
Fleet managers - according to customers' testimonials, tight control could
reduce your expenses by more than 10%.

FuelOmat Gold is Orpak's Wireless Vehicle Identification Systems (wVIS) which represents a revolutionary approach to Vehicle Identification Units (VIUs) and uses wireless technology between the gas station components to eliminate infrastructure investment.

The system ensures that the fuel goes only to the vehicle/fleet of the account to be charged. Any attempt to remove the nozzle and refuel another vehicle will immediately suspend the process. It is also possible to collect odometer and engine hour data from the vehicle for consumption and maintenance reports and also to prevent unauthorized fuel transfer from the vehicle fuel tank.

The same system can also track attendant activity: every attendant uses a contactless Authorizer tag to activate the dispenser for non-VIU refueling. At the end of the shift, the station manager gets a shift report with the cash and transactions slips that need to be collected from every attendant. The system can also report each attendant's productivity index.

A complementary FuelOmat component is the centralized Head Office system, which generates fleet and fuel related reports, including exception reports. Fleet managers can prevent unnecessary expenses by remotely logging-in to the system and setting limits and restrictions for every vehicle. These include:

Setting fueling limits per day/week/month,
Restricting fueling to stations in a specific region,
Allowing fueling only on specific days of the week.

This added value service for fleets is offered today by many global and regional oil companies.

The FuelOmat concept means fuel is only dispensed after validation of the acount and payment commitment. A transaction is authorized based on the VIU's unique identification, with one of the following optional, additional layers of authorization:

By the driver using a VIU device, tag or card,
By the attendant using his authorizer tag to activate the pump. The system will then issue a 'shift' or 'end of day' report indicating the amount of            money and payment means to be collected from each attendant.

Orpak's customers report savings of 5-20% on fuel expense!

FuleOmat products

The FuelOmat® vehicle identification system is a modular segment of Orpak's end-to-end station automation solution. It has already been integrated with many known POS/FCC station automation systems through the Orpak high level protocol.

FuelOmat® acts like any Outdoor Payment Terminal (OPT) but instead of cards it reads the vehicle contactless unit data with optional odometer and engine hour information.

The system has the following components:
Vehicle Identification Units – VIU, FuelOpass® ring and DataPass, installed on the vehicle,
Terminal – Vehicle Identification Transceiver (VIT) for FuelOmat® and Wireless Gateway Terminal (WGT) for the FuelOmat® Gold. These devices            are analogous to the OPT and connect to the station automation,
Nozzle Antenna and Reader – nozzle equipment kit for FuelOmat® and Nozzle Reader (NR) for FuelOmat® Gold. These devices communicate            with the VIU, receive its data and relay it to the terminal,
VIU Programmers – fixed and mobile solutions for the set-up and issuing of VIUs.

FuelOmat® Gold – Vehicle Identification Units

FuelOpass® is a passive vehicle identification tag for refueling. FuelOpass® has a patented removal protection mechanism to eliminate risk of theft. Enhanced protection is achieved by correlating the FuelOpass® and the DataPass® of the same vehicle.

FuelOpass® ring can be installed as stand alone, without DataPass, thereby increasing the loyalty of private motorists by providing convenient and innovative fueling.

DataPass – connects to the vehicle data bus, extract odometer, engine hour and additional vehicle information and transmits it via the station automation to the Fleet Head Office server (FHO).

µDataPass is designed for light and commercial vehicles and is connected to the OBD II plug.
DataPass is intended for heavy vehicles, trucks, buses and supports most bus protocols common to those vehicles.

FuelOmat® Gold – station components

The Nozzle Reader (NR) is a self contained unit installed on the nozzle, which reads the FuelOpass®/ VIU using contactless technology. It transmits the encrypted FuelOpass® data to the nearest Wireless Gateway Terminal (WGT) using short range, spread spectrum wireless communication. Orpak has invested significant effort into ensuring that the NR fits onto the existing fueling nozzles and cradles of many different brands around the world.

Wireless Gateway Terminal (WGT) functions as the "hot spot" wireless network in the station. WGT receives vehicle data from the NR and the vehicle DataPass, decrypts the information and transmits it to the station automation system in a secure manner.

FuelOmat® Gold – issuing components

A portable, secure VIU issuing device for the fast issuing of VIUs, on the spot, on customer premises.

The Wireless Programmer communicates with the management system over a cellular GPRS channel and downloads the VIU data already encrypted from the centralized SAM security server. The Wireless Programmer can program any of Orpak's VIU types.

This innovative issuing process enables the installing and programming of vehicle units in any installation center, as soon as vehicle details have been inserted into the management system.

This handheld device has a large LCD display, internal battery and a full alphanumeric keypad. All programming and reading of vehicle data is done in a wireless manner through the programmer antenna.
